Preparing a Chinese lesson from one word list

Hanzi Tools · Learning guide · Updated 6 November 2026

Choose words that belong in the same lesson. A shopping dialogue might need sizes, prices and a few useful questions. A family lesson might focus on a small set of relationships. Keeping the set coherent makes it easier to give each activity a reason.

Start with a sentence

Write a short example using the words. Check it in the text reader and edit the pinyin if a name or ambiguous character needs a different reading. Ask learners to identify the situation before explaining every item.

Make a sheet with enough room

Send the words to the worksheet generator. Choose a grid, tracing density and paper size. For characters with available data, include stroke steps. Print one copy and check the layout before preparing the full class set.

Choose an activity for the same words

Use the classroom activity maker for bingo, a word search, matching or another supported format. Read the answer key yourself. Duplicate words, very long items or an unusual character can affect what makes a good activity.

For pair work, printable word cards let learners ask for a word, explain its meaning or build a phrase. The activity should practise the language you chose, rather than adding unfamiliar words simply to fill a page.

Keep editable originals

Save the source word list and download the material you need. If you use your own image on a poster, check that you have permission to reproduce it in the context you intend.
